Instrument Flight Rating!
On Saturday, August 3rd, I reached a huge milestone in my aviation career. I earned my Instrument Flight Rating! This additional rating allows me to fly in inclement weather, low visibility, and low cloud cover. However, this accomplishment meant so much more to me than the certificate itself. I have been working towards this goal for just over a year. Last summer, I started studying for my instrument rating at a flight school in Punta Gorda, Florida. However, I was never taught to fly a non-precision VOR approach, leading to me receiving a disapproval on my first checkride. I then moved out to Houston, TX to attend Rice University, where…

San Jacinto Council at the Lone Star Flight Museum
On March 23rd, the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council hosted an incredible aviation education event at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Houston, Texas. I had the honor of speaking at this event, along aside the incredible Dr. Shelly Lesikar deZevallos, to dozens of middle and high school aged young women about my experience as a young woman pursuing aviation. It was incredible to see the enthusiasm in these young girls and to see the impact that the San Jacinto Council is making in the lives of Girls Scouts everywhere! I can’t wait to work with them again soon. This kind of ambition and drive from Girl Scout Councils…

AIAA SciTech Conference – 2024
Through my collegiate and professional endeavors, I had the great honor of speaking as a Higher Orbits Panelist at the incredible AIAA SciTech Conference , a professional convention focused on aeronautics and astronautics, this past January. I had the pleasure of meeting some of the greatest astronautical minds of our era, as well as immersing myself in the industry for the first time. I am so grateful for this amazing opportunity, one that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the HIGHER ORBITS FOUNDATION and AIAA! Thank you so much for giving students, like me, the experience of a lifetime. This was my first professional conference, let alone one that I…

2023 National Gold Award Scholarship!
Girl Scouting has always been an essential part of my identity. It was the program where I discovered my love of learning, made lifelong friends, and cultivated my passions. This past year, I had the privilege of completing my Girl Scout Gold Award, called Girls Who Soar. I hosted a series of workshops introducing the wonderful world of aviation to young women in my community, and I am still working on sharing it with girls around the country through my advocacy efforts. I was recently awarded the 2023 National Gold Award Scholarship of $10,000 from the Girl Scouts of the USA. I am incredibly humbled and grateful for this opportunity…

Progress with Girl Scouts of the USA
The petition is now over 1,700 signatures! The support is incredible, so much so that we finally got the attention of Girl Scouts programming leadership! I recently had the privilege of meeting with two incredible women that serve as director and vice president on the Girl Scout programming and experience sectors. They reached out to me initially via email after them receiving word of the petition and advocacy efforts, and seeing the petition’s support. Major strides have been taken in the Girl Scouting program, including reevaluating curriculum and badges to better serve the Girl Scouts of the future. Due to these initiatives, the creation of an aviation or engineering badge…
